Tackling hunger in the uk with the Felix Project
Here at Dash Water, we’ve teamed up with London-based food charity, The Felix Project, to help combat food poverty in the UK. The project’s aim is to distribute healthy, nutritious meals to vulnerable people who do not have access. So to help out, we’re donating one meal for every case of Dash Water sold through our online shop during July, and will be running a similar initiative with many of our retail partners. It’s our aim to donate 80,000 meals!
What is The Felix Project?
The Felix Project is a London food distribution charity whose mission is to fight food waste and food poverty in the UK. They collect good, surplus food from the food industry that cannot be sold, before delivering it to charities and schools that use it to provide healthy meals to those in need.
What is food poverty?
Food poverty is the inability to access healthy, nutritious meals due to factors such as low income or lack of cooking skills. It affects many individuals and households across the UK, including vulnerable people, people with poor mental health and those who cannot afford sufficient food.
In London alone, 1.5 million adults struggle to eat every day, while 400,000 children are at risk of missing their next meal. Meanwhile, our food industry generates 3 million tonnes of good, edible surplus food each year. It’s The Felix Project’s mission to counteract the two.
Why is Dash partnering with The Felix Project?
Because of our shared goal to fight food waste, it felt only natural that The Felix Project is our chosen charity.
At Dash Water, we aim to build awareness around the wasteful wonky fruit issue, in the hope to end irresponsible supermarket grading processes. We also ensure that our own products use the fruits and vegetables that supermarkets reject so that we’re putting food waste to good use.
By partnering with The Felix Project, we’re able to go one step further by finding even more ways to stop food waste and tackling food poverty in doing so.
How can you support The Felix Project?
The Felix project are currently running The Empty Plate Emergency Appeal.
This campaign was served up to raise awareness and fill the plates of thousands of Londoners who can’t afford to buy food this winter. As the cost-of-living increases, this problem is becoming increasingly severe.
Donating just £5 will deliver 22 meals from surplus food to Londoners in need.
This year DASH Water have donated 90,000 meals to the Felix Project; if you’re interested in helping the charity further, find out more about volunteering or donating.
